It is a New Dawn and a New Year

January 2011

I am inspired to share this blog and this journey with the hope that it entertains people and maybe even motivates them towards heart healthy living.

This past year and a half have been the worst of my entire life. In October 2009 I was hospitalized for a viral infection and on my second morning I fainted and my heart stopped for no particular reason. This won me a pacemaker. For the past year I have suffered thru one set back after another. No diagnosis. A diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. A broken ankle due to extreme stupidity. Surgeries. Death of one of the most beloved people in my life. High Blood Pressure. Elevated Pulse. Migraines. It goes on and on and on.

On top of that I gained weight. I gained and gained and gained. You can blame it on illness, you can blame it on the many medications, you can blame it on the depression, blame, blame, blame. Bottomline, I have serious health issues, I have a pacemaker, my Dad died of heart disease at 52, and most of all I don't like being F - A - T.

It won't be easy but my goal is to lose the 60 pounds I have gained in the last two years. I want to do it for me and for my children and for my best friend, Tamese and my best friend cousin, Sandy so they can do it to. I want to live a long and crazy fun life. I want to be sitting by a pool when I am old and gray with Tamese and Sandy by my side while we make snarky remarks about the other younger women and flirt with the men and try to remind them why experience sometimes is better than youth.

I am also an active member in the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Campaign. Here is my secret. I want to be one of the heart survivor poster people. You know wear the red dress and tell my story.

I can't do that in this body and with these behaviors.

So it starts now. This is my campaign to live the life I want. Welcome to Go Dawn Go.

Oh and by the way, I turn Forty this month, can you say "midlife crisis"?
